Angel (2007)

Set in Norley, England, the romantic drama Angel (2007) follows the eponymous character (Romola Garai), an outsider loner-type with an active imagination, one that posits the idea of her becoming a famous writer one day. With her mother (Jacqueline Tong), a lowly shopkeeper, and her aunt (Janine Duvitski), a housekeeper, dumbfounded by her, Angel is alone in the world. But when Angel actually writes her big novel and sends it out for publishing consideration, publisher extraordinaire Theo Gilbert (Sam Neill) offers to print her novel, but like all editors he insists that she rework some parts, an idea she tearfully refuses. Giving in to her tears, Theo publishes the book as-is, it quickly becomes an immediate success, and more hits soon follow. Fame comes to Angel and she soon falls for Esmé (Michael Fassbender), an arrogant artist and the brother of an admirer, Nora (Lucy Russell). The two eventually fall in love, get married, and face tragedy when Esmé heads off to fight in World War I. Along the way, Michael Fassbender finds time to bare his butt while hopping into bed to bang his sweetie. Looks like Michael’s the real angel of the film!
