Review

In 1982 Stephen King stepped away from the spooky stuff with his novella collection Different Seasons. Each story centered around a different season in the year, with winter represented by a story called "The Breathing Method" that's never been adapted to the big screen, while fall was represented by "The Body" which became Stand by Me (1986), spring was represented by "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption," which became The Shawshank Redemption (1994), and summer was represented by the story of the same name, Apt Pupil (1998). Directed by Bryan Singer, in the film, Brad Renfro plays Todd Bowden, a high school kid living in 1984 Southern California who figures out that his elderly next door neighbor is really Kurt Dussander (Ian McKellen), a fugitive former Nazi Concentration Camp commandant. Bowden bargains with Dussander: he agrees not to turn in his Nazi neighbor if he will tell Bowdon graphic stories of life in the concentration camps. It’s here where the crazy cat-and-mouse relationship develops and cultivates a devious darkness in both of them that leads to death and blackmail. In a surreal shower scene that morphs from high school locker room to Auschwitz gas chamber, Renfro’s rear, pubes and well-defined physique are seen as he cleans up with the rest of the tight teen dream team baring their butts and bods. Despite the heavy overtones of the movie, the shower scene will make your pupils dilate with delight! Bryan Singer was accused of doing some bad stuff while filming this one, but don't let that spoil the joy of seeing Brad's bod! It's a dark movie, but Mr. Man's willing to admit he fapped to Apt Pupil!
