Biography

If you’ve seen some of Ben Schnetzer‘s films, you might not realize he was actually born and raised in New York. His parents were both actors (his dad was a soap star) and Ben landed his first role as Ben Stephens in the film Ben’s Plan (2007) when he was just a kid (it’s a lot of Bens, Mr. Man know this, but it can’t be helped). He moved on to playing Andrew Haplin in the TV series Happy Town in 2010. Then he took a break to move to London, to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Three years later, he graduated, and landed the role of Max Vandenburg in The Book Thief (2013), showing off a German accent, then took on a brogue playing Northern Irish gay activist Mark Ashton in Pride (2014). Back in the states, he landed parts as a shirtless Brad in Goat (2016) with Nick Jonas, Khadgar in Warcraft (2016) with Ben Foster, and Gabriel Sol in Oliver Stone’s Snowden (2016). Biopics seem to be his thing, and Ben has appeared in lots of “based on a true story” dramas, including The Journey is the Destination (2016), 7 Days in Entebbe (2018), The Grizzlies(2018), and Saint Judy (2018). Though only a fictional biography, he played the 21-year-old version of Jacob Tremblay’s character Rupert Turner in The Death and Life of John F. Donovan (2018), with Kit Harrington and Natalie Portman. On television, you can see him as Marcus Goldman in the mini-series The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair (2018), and playing Yorick Brown in the FX on Hulu series Y: the Last Man, a surprising turn for Ben, as it’s set in a post-apocalyptic work where he’s the only man left on the planet. He’s long-haired and hot, and very, very naked in at least one scene, with only his hand operating as wardrobe. Oh, to be a hand!
