After French filmmaker Guillaume Canet made The Beach (2000) and Tell No One (2006), he thrilled audiences when he whipped out his thriller Blood Ties (2013). After serving twelve years for murdering a rapist and killer, Chris Pierzynski (Clive Owen) is released from prison in 1974. The fifty-something ex-con meets up with his family members: Leon (James Caan) Marie (Lili Taylor), Robin (Daisy Tahan), Michael (Charlie Tahan), and his younger brother Frank (Billy Crudup), who just happens to be a good New York City cop with a promising future. The story also includes Anthony Scarfo (Matthias Schoenaerts), Detective Nick (Jamie Hector), Detective Valenti (John Ventimiglia), Fabio De Soto (Yul Vazquez), Lieutenant Connellan (Noah Emmerich), McNally (Griffin Dunne), Monica D’Amato (Marion Cotillard), Natalie (Mila Kunis), Vanessa (Zoe Saldana), and Yvonne (Eve Hewson). Despite the fact that this film features an impressive ensemble cast, it bombed at the box office. Maybe if Mr. Owen, Mr. Crudup, Mr. Vazquez, and Mr. Schoenaerts showed off their schoen-asses, the R rated drama would have enticed more movie goers. Meanwhile, on screen, freedom proves to be too overwhelming for Chris, so he ends up getting lost in his old life of crime. Such wayward ways become a bone of contention for his kid brother. However, Mr. Man has a bone of erection whenever the anti-hero appears without his shirt. In other words, Clive’s hairy chest and muscular guns are a real turn on. If being sexy is a crime, then consider this luscious leading man guilty as charged!
