Long before Martin Scorsese teamed up with Leonardo DiCaprio to bring us flicks like The Aviator and The Wolf of Wall Street, he was bringing a buck nude David Carradine to the big screen with Boxcar Bertha (1972)! Based on the true story of Depression-era criminal Bertha Thompson, Boxcar unites retro real life lovers and 70’s “it” couple Barbara Hershey and cutie David Carradine. Hershey plays Bertha, a young woman who turns to a life of crime after losing her father. Her literal partner in crime is Big Bill Shelly (Carradine), a union boss who gets back at non-union barons by robbing trains. Often compared to the 1967 classic Bonnie and Clyde, Scorsese’s outlaw epic gives modern day viewers a fine period piece through the distinct lens of 70’s moviemaking. Speaking of fine pieces (you knew that was coming) David Carradine shows off the whole kit and caboodle at the 52 minute mark!
