From Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis in Artists and Models (1955) to Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe in The Nice Guys (2016), we love watching two mismatched characters being thrown together. If the pair share onscreen chemistry and comic timing, then you’re in the midst of a buddy flick. Think Paul Newman and Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) as well as The Sting (1973). Or, Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd in Trading Places (1983); Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin in Midnight Run (1988); Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson in White Men Can’t Jump (1992); plus Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in 22 Jump Street (2014) and 23 Jump Street (2015). Of course, we can’t forget Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart in the box office hit Central Intelligence (2016). The PG-13 CIA comedy begins with a flashback to a once-heavy Robbie (Johnson) being bullied in high school and then saved by Calvin (Hart), the school’s star athlete. Twenty years later, Rob has hardened into a hunk and works for the CIA. He also needs Calvin’s accounting help. As you can guess, big action scenes and bigger laughs ensue as the couple of buds encounter a CIA agent (Amy Ryan), Calvin’s high school sweetheart (Maggie Joyner) and Robbie’s old crush (Melissa McCarthy). You’ll be crushing when you see shots of The Rock with his shirt off. If that’s not arousing enough, his body double (Sione Kelepi) flashes some ass. In other words, Central Intelligence will stimulate your heads!
