Cool Hand Luke (1967)

During a night fueled with alcohol, the troublemaking Lucas “Luke” Jackson (Paul Newman) creates chaos and disorder by destroying parking meters, leading to an arrest and a subsequent two year prison sentence punctuated by hard labor on a chain gang led by Captain (Strother Martin), a sadistic warden with a bone to pick with Luke. While upsetting the warden, Luke also manages to anger his fellow prisoners, especially Dragline (George Kennedy), the leader of the inmates. After beating Dragline in a boxing match, the nonconformist is christened Cool Hand Luke (1967), and garners the respect and admiration of his nabbed neighbors. As the popular prisoner repeatedly attempts to escape from captivity, Captain and his cronies try in vain to break Luke’s spirit, leading to the ultimate test of wills and authority. Where there’s a prison, there are half-naked men! Paul Newman, Ralph Waite, and Dennis Hopper each show off their tight bodies throughout the film.
