Hair (1979)

Review

It’s time to “Let the Sun Shine In!” as the Age of Aquarius dawns in director Milos Forman’s big screen adaptation of the Broadway smash hit Hair (1979). The story remains the same — Claude (John Savage) leaves Oklahoma for the big city during the summer of love and finds himself quickly caught up in the hippie movement before being drafted to fight in Vietnam. The Golden Globe-nominated pic retains the world famous nude scene that occurs at the end of Act I. Alas, it’s sadly sedated due to the film’s PG rating. Thankfully we get plenty of shirtless shots of Mr. Savage throughout the movie. John even goes bottomless to show off his white boxers. Now, that’s what we call a knockout! The film also features Annie Golden, Beverly D’Angelo, Cheryl Barnes, David Rose, Don Dacus, Dorsey Wright, Melba Moore, Ronnie Dyson, and Michael Jeter’s nude debut. As an army recruit, the latter actor strips down in front of a table of officers. The skintastic act lets us see Michael’s chest, balls and peen. If that’s not erotic enough, he also exposes his bare butt and painted toenails. Kinky! Best of all, George Berger (Treat Williams) reveals his buns. So, that’s why Mr. Williams was nominated for New Star of the Year in a Motion Picture. No doubt, he impressed audiences by flashing his back, ass, shaft and sack after shedding his threads. Nice treat, Treat! No wonder this flick has Mr. Man humming “What a Piece of Work is Man”!
