Born of Chinese heritage, Harry Shum Jr. actually hails from Puerto Limón, the capital of Costa Rica. He speaks English, Spanish, and Chinese, and sings and dances beautifully—as can be witnessed by his role as Mike Chang on the hit Fox series Glee, which he mastered from 2009-2015. Before that fateful casting coup, he played roles like “Dancer” and “Chinese Delivery Guy” in both TV and the movies, including one part as “Lollipop Love Dancer” in The Onion Movie (2008). While playing a high school kid in Glee, he also took on the part of Elliot Hoo in The LXD: The Uprising Begins (2010) movie, and its subsequent series, The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers, from 2010-2011. He’s also played Luke on Caper in 2014, Peter in the mini-series Single by 30 (2016), and Magnus Bane in Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments from 2016-2019, where he has a lovely makeout session with fellow hunk Matthew Daddario in season one, episode 12 (in case you’re doing a search). Harry is no stranger to the big screen, either, lending his talents to multiple movie hits, like Stomp the Yard (2007), Moms’ Night Out (2014), Crazy Rich Asians (2018), and Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022). Netflix also has him on board, with roles in Love Hard (2021) and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny (2016). And you can get your romance fully on in All My Life (2020), with Harry playing the handsome groom Solomon “Sol” Chau. Tears included; grab a hankie (for the tears).
