Isla Bonita (2015)

For those who don’t speak Spanish, “pretty island” means Isla Bonita (2015). Not to be confused with the Madonna song “La Isla Bonita” (1986), this skinternational movie is a lighthearted, intellectual character study of an aging publicist called Fer. He’s played by Fernando Colomo, who also directed the movie. The action kicks in when Fer’s friend Miguel Ángel (Miguel Furones, who co-wrote the script with Colomo) invites him to the island of Menorca to reevaluate his life. While hanging out with his pal, Fer meets a few eccentric people, such as a sexy free-spirited sculptor (Nuria Román) who changes his world view. Speaking of views, we get to see a fair share of nudity thanks to the dudes on screen. Tim Bettermann proves there’s no one better than him at stripping, unless it’s Lluís Marqués. In fact, the two men shed their threads to frolic on the beach. The skintastic act showcases their collective abs, buns, balls, and junk when they plunge into the sea. In other words, these skinny-dippers put the bone into Isla Bone-ita! Perhaps that’s why the pic was named Best Spanish Film at the 60th Sant Jordi Awards. No doubt, the voters appreciated this flick’s flesh fiesta! At the risk of repeating themselves, Tim and Lluís doff their duds again when they’re in bed with a lucky lady. How do you say ménage à trois in Spanish? Although the movie includes dialogue in Spanish, English and the island’s Catalan dialect, the universal language of lust needs no translation!
