A native of Leeds, West Yorkshire, John Simm got his start in show business when he began studying acting at the Blackpool Drama College when he was just 16. When he turned 19, John continued his apprenticeship in the thespian’s craft at the Drama Centre, London.
John’s career began when he started appearing on British TV in shows like Rumpole of the Bailey, Oasis, Heartbeat, The Bill, and Men of the World. He also lent his talents to the made-for-TV movies A Pinch of Snuff and Meat in 1994. Hey John can we split the difference and pinch your meat?
John’s big screen debut came in 1995, when he starred opposite Emer McCourt, Marc Warren, and future Walking Dead star Andrew Lincoln in the gritty indie drama Boston Kickout. Despite appearing alongside such bright rising stars, John stole the show and even went on to win the best actor award at the Valencia Film Festival for his film debut.
Since then, John has attained cult sci-fi status in his won right by being the eighth actor to play the arch-villain known only as The Master on the wildly popular time traveling series Doctor Who. We’ve got something you can master, John!
