Nightwatch (1998)

After the release of his movie Masturbator (1993), Danish filmmaker Ole Bornedal whipped out his … chiller diller Nightwatch (1994). And it didn’t take long for Yanks in the States to crank out the American remake Nightwatch (1998) with Bornedal as director. The English-speaking horror flick kicks off when law student Martin Bells (Ewan McGregor) takes a night job at the local morgue to earn extra cash. As fate would have it, Martin is on duty when a serial killer’s latest victim is brought in. The situation seems even creepier when Inspector Thomas Cray (Nick Nolte) informs Martin that the murderer is a necrophiliac. If you think things can’t get worse, think again. After a local prostitute pops up as the next victim, Martin is framed as the main suspect! As he looks for the actual perpetrator, we meet James Gallman (Josh Brolin), a duty doctor (Brad Dourif), and Deputy Inspector Bill Davis played by an uncredited John C. Reilly. Despite the fact that critics were far from thrilled with this eerie thriller, flesh fans will appreciate the skin it delivers. Yes, Mr. McGregor shows off his McPecs and McPegs while soaking in the bath. The Scottish hottie steams up the screen thanks to views of his wet balls and peen! Then his lady love Katherine (Patricia Arquette) comes in and kisses him. Yet instead of having sex, she bites his lip when he calls her Marie (Lauren Graham). She draws blood when we’d rather see another bodily fluid. Oh, the horror!
