Ted (2012)

In his directorial debut, writer/voice actor Seth MacFarlane introduced millions of movie-goers to Ted (2012), a cigar-smoking, potty-mouthed stuffed bear. The fantastical comedy begins in 1985 when little boy John Bennett (Bretton Manley) wishes his Teddy bear would come to life. Obviously, this kid never heard the phrase “be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.” Fast-forward some 20 years and 30-something John (Mark Wahlberg) is living with his talking toy Ted (voiced by MacFarlane). Despite his cuddly appearance, Ted is a wise-cracking womanizer who entertains prostitutes in John’s home. After dealing with such antics, John thinks twice about his childhood wish. But his regrets turn into our pleasure when Ted pulls down Wahlberg’s pants and gives him a spanking. With an ass like that, who wouldn’t want to leave a mark on Mark? No need to answer since the question is rhetorical. The R rated romp includes Mila Kunis as John’s girlfriend Lori; Joel McHale as Lori’s manager and John’s enemy; Giovanni Ribisi as Ted’s stalker; Patrick Warburton as John’s co-worker; Laura Vandervoort as John’s co-worker; and Jessica Barth as Ted’s girlfriend Tami-Lynn McCafferty. This funny flick was such a hit, it spawned the sequel Ted 2 (2015) and Peacock’s prequel series ted (2024). In addition to being a box office smash, the original pic was named Favorite Comedy Movie at the People’s Choice Awards. Plus, the MTV Movie Awards dubbed MacFarlane and Wahlberg Best On-Screen Duo. Of course, we think that prize goes to Mark’s two cheeks!
