Jim Morrison, the leather-clad, wild child lead singer of the groundbreaking, genre-bending band The Doors lived a life ripe for a biopic. He wowed concertgoers with his on-stage antics, manly body, and sexually-tinged lyrics and mannerisms, garnering an army of adorning fans, screaming and gnashing for the Lizard King. Val Kilmer stars as Morrison in the 1991 film The Doors, an Oliver Stone directed feature that follows the UCLA film student-turned lead singer-turned poet and documents the humble beginnings of the Los Angeles-based band. Along with guitarist Robby Krieger (Frank Whaley), keyboardist Ray Manzarek (Kyle MacLachlan), and drummer John Densmore (Kevin Dillon), Morrison took on the flower child generation with his own brand of counterculture sexiness. When the band released their self-titled debut in 1965, fame soon followed, leading Morrison to eventually fall victim to the alcohol-fueled, psychedelic-induced trappings of rock star fame, which lead to an early death in a Paris bathtub at the age of twenty-seven.

In the film, the band takes a backseat to the stardom of its sexy singer, especially thanks to Kilmer’s butt-baring scenes of sex, drugs, and prison bullying. Perfection! Kilmer just lit the fire in our loins!
