Review

The Kidnapping of Michel Houellebecq or L'enlèvement de Michel Houellebecq (2014) is French dramedy starring the titular Michel Houellebecq, in a story that blends fact with widely rumored fiction. It depicts famous author Michel Houellebecq being kidnapped and held for ransom by three men during a promotional book tour in 2011. The story was inspired by a rumor which spread while Houellebecq was promoting his novel The Map and the Territory. French newspapers began to speculate that he had been kidnapped after seemingly disappearing from the public eye and showing no signs of life. In reality he only had some trouble with his Internet connection, adding a commentary on how much our online activity is integral to our overall existence in the eyes of the world. The film premiered at the 2014 Berlin International Film Festival. Personally, though Mr. Man doesn't condone kidnapping, he'd take the magnificently muscled Maxime Lefrançois hostage over anyone, especially when the hulking hottie strips off his shirt for some flexing and pectoral dancing.
