Review

An encounter at an art museum leads to a relationship that is equally refreshing and corrosive in The Shape of Things (2003), a romantic drama starring Paul Rudd as Adam, an awkward college student working part-time as a security guard at an art museum that has his life flipped when he encounters Evelyn (Rachel Weisz), a beautiful art major defacing a statue at the museum. Instead of reprimanding the graffiti girl, the goofy guard gets her digits, leading to an unlikely romance that transforms Adam into a cooler, more confident dude. But the reinvented nebbish nerd, influenced by Evelyn, begins to isolate his friends, eventually changing the shape of his true friendships. The nudity is nil, but there’s a sweet scene where Rudd reveals a tattoo to Weisz while waiting in the doctor’s office. We see a shock of Paul’s pubes as Rachel drops to her knees to kiss the newly minted tattoo. It’s a sexually charged moment that’s sure to please.
