Review

Wasp is an artfully shot indie drama by director Philippe Audi-Dor (side note: what a name - we’re assuming he lives in a castle). Anyway, the movie picked up some awards at its FilmOut San Diego debut, including Best International Feature.  Wasp explores the dynamics between a gay couple and a straight woman, and the multifaceted nature of sexuality revealed when their relationship with one another takes an unexpected turn.

Couple Oliver (Simon Haycock) and James (Hugo Bolton) go on a romantic getaway to the South of France. Both identify as gay, are in love, and are living the life. When unexpectedly joined by James’ friend Caroline (Elly Condron), however, one of the men begins to question his sexuality, threatening his romantic relationship.

What we really need to talk about is how gorgeous Hugo Bolton and Simon Haycock are. Dang, these men are lean! Both have chins that you could use to cut open that impossible packaging around batteries (batteries, that you will need for your newly destroyed… personal massager), and both have absolutely perfect bodies. Although we don’t get a glimpse of anything below the belt, steamy scenes, as in the one where Hugo Bolton pounds the life out of Simon Haycock, are bound to moisten your sponge. Our hope is that these fine specimens continue to take on challenging roles and push the boundaries of the indie film scene, and that they show us their junk.
