Dylan McDermott

All right guys, it's time to revisit one of my favorite topics: The Dermot McDermott Diabolical Duo. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I recommend you begin with this video - thoughI can't promise you'll be any less confused on the other side. In this investigation, we are examining two primary characters:

1. Dylan McDermott and

2. Dermot Mulroney

You've seen them. You know them. They're relatively tall, thin but toned brunette actors who play the sensitive yet adorably troubled men in rom coms and the occasionalthriller. They've come into their distinguished salt-and-pepper hairstyles at the same time, and they are both devilishly handsome, though McDermott is slightly less rugged. Obviously, their names are hard to keep straight, which is funny considering I've never heard of any other human with a first or last name that contains Dermot in real life, but what do I know?

Dermot Mulroney

Here's the thing though, folks: Their similarities go beyond their striking physiques, their initials, and their history of losing their shirts. (Barenaked Ladies reference, anyone?) The tale of these two men lines up throughout the course of history, and I'd like to take you on that journey with me.

Before they were DILFs

Let's start at the beginning, shall we? Born in 1961, McDermott (not to be confused with Dermot) had a tumultuous childhood - his very young mother was murdered by her mobster boyfriend when he was only five. When his father remarried ten years later, his stepmom - legendary Vagina Monologues playwright Eve Ensler - adopted him and encouraged him to act in college. Beyond the big screen, Dylan has done some remarkable work in the theater. I hope he takes his clothes off there, too.

McDermott

He married his first wife, Shiva Rose, in 1995 and was with her for 13 years. He embarked on both fame and fatherhood, becoming the man we watch on the big screen while drooling today. He's been in so many movies and shows I can't even count them, and I often find myself saying things like, Oh, he was the husband in THAT movie! The reason for this is obvious: Literally everyone would want to marry the guy.

Dermot

Enter: Dermot Mulroney. He was born in 1963, just two years after McDerm. This guy once played a character named Kit McDermott, because that's not confusing, and cemented his own acting career in college. He doesn't do much stage work, but Dermot is a cellist that's played in many a film score - presumably for movies he wasn't starring in. He married his first wife, Catherine Keener, after meeting her in 1987 and was with her for 17 years. Also a real-life DILF, Dermot has three kiddos, embodying who I imagine his character in My Best Friend's Wedding would be today.

If all of that wasn't enough, I've recently acquainted myself with the Mr. Man profiles for Charlie McDermott and Patrick McDermott, neither of whom are related to each other, Dylan McDermott, Kit McDermott (Dermot M.), or Derbil McDillet. Dermot Mulroney co-owned a Chicago venue near the Mr. Man offices called Double Door, and I've officially typed the letter D far more times than I've been able to look at the picture of Dermot's, which means I have to sign off and rebalance my day.

I'll leave you with this:Happy birthday, Dylan McDermott, and if you're around shooting for Shameless, Dermot Mulroney, we'd love for you to stop by sometime. And when I say we,I mean me.
