3 Needles (2005) utilizes compelling storytelling to provide a global view of the AIDS crisis. And, it includes Shawn Ashmore’s only nude scene to date! The drama takes place in Africa, rural China, and Montreal, CA, and in each location we learn about different ways AIDS affects people. In China, the pregnant Jin Ping (Lucy Liu) makes a living from selling black market blood. After convincing townspeople to sell their blood for $5 a pop, they become infected because she’s using unsanitary needles to extract the valuable blood. In Africa, missionaries struggle to save terminally ill patients, but it’s the Canada storyline that will have you screaming EHHH! Shawn Ashmore plays a porn star who keeps his HIV status a secret, and while prepping for a scene, works out in his tighty whities. The real magic happens when he lets his ass hang out of a Pilgrim costume while on camera! The sensationalism in 3 Needles didn’t knock critics off their feet, but with a look at blonde, blue-eyed dreamboat Shawn in the buff, it’s definitely worth a look.
