A Walk in the Woods (2015)

A Walk in the Woods (2015), is a Nick Nolte and Robert Redford vehicle where you won’t see too many vehicles. Redford plays an aging author who, after spending decades in England, returns to his home in New Hampshire, retired. He soon decides he’d like to hike the Appalachian Trail, a 2,200 mile long path along the Appalachian Mountains. His wife, Emma Thompson, tries desperately to stop him, but relents if he can find somebody else that’s crazy enough to do it with him. Redford finds and old friend, recovering alcoholic Stephen Katz (Nick Nolte) who agrees to the undertaking. The film seems to wander as much as its protagonists do. Being more or less pleasant, the amiable movie ambles on as the two have pleasant conversations and meet pleasant people. And fairly early on, as you might expect, they realize this ultra-hike will be harder than they had anticipated. Fans of Nick Nolte will rejoice when the rough and tumble actor tumbles into his tent, exposing a healthy bit of plumber’s crack. Many fans of St. Nick wish they could share the tent with him for the night! A camp out with Nolte and Redford would definitely be fun, especially when it came time to roast wieners!
