Broadchurch (2013-2015)

The murder of Danny (Oskar McNamara), an eleven-year-old boy, in a close-knit seaside town ignites a media frenzy and an exhaustive police investigation in the Brit boob tube drama Broadchurch. Leading the tension-filled investigation are two detectives: the strong-willed Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) and her newly-appointed, by-the-book investigator, Alec Hardy (David Tennant). The case is personal for Ellie: Danny was the best friend of her son, Tom (Adam Wilson), and the youngest child of her neighbors Mark and Beth (Andrew Buchan and Jodie Whittaker). Things get complicated when her nephew, Olly (Jonathan Bailey), a local reporter looking to make a name for himself, latches on to the case in hopes of using it to further his career and get out of the titular location. But Olly has competition in the form of Karen (Vicky McClure), a big-time tabloid journalist from London who has a bone to pick with Alec. There’s more suspense than skin in this crime drama, but James D’Arcy manages to tease a look at his glistening, post-poke upper body in season two, episode four. It’s a real crime that he didn’t show more.
