Couples Retreat (2009)

In the ensemble rom-com Couples Retreat (2009), suburban spouses take a discounted vacation to a tropical destination. Yet the supposed bargain break comes with unexpected obligations. This humorous holiday flick pairs up Hollywood beauties (Malin Åkerman, Kristen Bell, Kristin Davis, and Kali Hawk) with some of the most amusing guys (Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau, and Faizon Love) in the biz. Plus, it’s co-written by funnyman Vince Vaughn who heads up the comedic cast. In fact, Vince’s real-life father Vernon Vaughn plays his character’s dad on screen. How’s that for authenticity? Even though the interactions between the couples — who must participate in therapy sessions conducted by a bunch of wackos (Amy Hill, Ken Jeong, John Michael Higgins) — is hilarious, the film takes a serious turn when examining the complexities of monogamous relationships and middle-class marriages. Of course, there’s nothing middle-class about the bathing suit bulges on Mr. Favreau and Salvadore (Carlos Ponce). The same can be said for the Speedo-donning Marcel (Jean Reno). Like Briggs (Temuera Morrison), the male cast members tout their bare chests. All it takes is one glance at these topless hotties to know their retreat is your treat. This is especially true when it comes to Mr. Love who does the guys one better by flashing his ebony ass on camera! Perhaps that’s why the PG-13 rated pic became a box office hit. Not only did it make more than $171 million, it earned interest in Mr. Man’s spank bank. Needless to say, it’s one sexy getaway!
