Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001)

At the time of its initial theatrical release, Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001) was a box office flop. But since then, the musical dramedy has gained a cult following. Adapted from the popular off-Broadway musical of the same name, John Cameron Mitchell’s R rated flick tells the tale of a Communist Berlin-born kid called Hansel (Ben Mayer-Goodman) who yearns to achieve musical fame in the United States. Once the German dreamer grows up and changes his name to Hedwig (Mitchell), he falls in love with American solider Sergeant Luther Robinson (Maurice Dean Wint). Luther promises to build a life with Hedwig overseas if he agrees to undergo a sex change to better present as female. After the sensitive surgery goes horribly wrong, Hedwig is left with an “angry inch” and is stranded by his military man in a depressing Kansas trailer. Left to fend for himself, he then meets Tommy Speck (Michael Pitt) and the two bond until Tom steals Hedwig’s songs, leaving the man with a mutilated member alone in the shadows. The movie includes Andrea Martin as Hedwig’s manager Phyllis Stein; Rosie O’Donnell as herself; and Mr. Wint’s skin! Just 25 minutes into the pic, the ebony actor flashes his perfect pecs. If that’s not titillating enough, Mr. Mitchell also bares his back and bum as he strolls down the alley to close out the movie. We never get to see his angry inch, but shots of his beautiful booty will transform your angry inch into some happy inches!
