War correspondent Martha Gellhorn’s brief marriage to Ernest Hemingway gets dramatized in HBO’s Hemingway & Gellhorn (2012). Journalist Martha Gellhorn (Nicole Kidman) met larger-than-life novelist Hemingway (Clive Owen) at a Florida bar in 1936, and the pair connected over an immediate battle of wills. They grew even closer when they covered the Spanish Civil War together, but Hemingway’s drunken womanizing and Martha’s dedication to her work would eventually tear them apart.
