Biography

If charismatic chap Hugh Grant grants our request to strip on screen, we’ll be very relieved indeed! After all, what’s the point of costume pics (Sense and Sensibility, Impromptu, Remando al viento, Restoration) if the Golden Globe and BAFTA winner insists on wearing costumes? Fortunately, Grant gave a topless turn in Ken Russell’s horror flick The Lair of the White Worm (1988). But when nudity surrounds him in Bitter Moon (1992) and Sirens (1994), the Oxford grad remains a proper Englishman. Before singing and dancing on film (About a Boy, Love Actually, Paddington 2), Hugh became a household name for stammering Richard Curtis’s lines in Four Weddings and a Funeral (1995). The same can be said of his shirtless role in Notting Hill (1999). But Grant went against type when he played a smooth-talking cad in Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004). While seducing Renée Zellweger (and audiences everywhere), the GQ cover boy flashes his abs and his (body double’s) ass! Thanks to Stephen Frears, Grant reveals his chest in Florence Foster Jenkins (2016) and same-sex preferences in A Very English Scandal (2018). Yet whether in Guy Ritchie’s action flicks (The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Gentlemen), James Ivory’s period pieces (Maurice, The Remains of the Day), or Marc Lawrence’s rom-coms (Two Weeks Notice, Music and Lyrics, Did You Hear About the Morgans?, The Rewrite), Hugh proves he’s dashing while dressed. Still, we’re just a website standing in front of a boy, asking him to get naked.
