Singer/songwriter and actor Jay Brannan is music to the eyes. The Texas native likes 'em big, which is good because size matters. Don't believe us, then check out his performance as Ceth in the explicit and critically adored arthouse flick Shortbus (2006). He and two other actors go every which way and loose, no holes barred, with a side dish of the national anthem. But don’t take Jay’s on-screen vocal stylings in this flick as a measure of his talent—although his song “Soda Shop” on the soundtrack was the film’s biggest seller. In fact, the gentle-faced, lanky boy has more credits for soundtracks than for acting gigs, and was even nominated for a Genie Award (Canada’s equivalent to the Oscars) for the song “My Love, My Love” in the film Cloudburst(2011). He’s released several studio albums, including In Living Color in 2009, which hit number ten on the Billboard Top Heetseekers chart. He eventually started his own label, Great Depression Records, to continue his releases, both in album and EP form. According to the bio on his website, “Jay continues to explore his interests and lives the good life in NYC, surrounded by sushi and street noise.
