La Bare (2014)

Review

For decades, documentaries have earned a reputation for covering significant subjects of injustice. Night and Fog (1955) delivers haunting imagery from a Holocaust camp in Auschwitz. The War Game (1965) focuses on the aftermath of nuclear war. In Harlan County U.S.A. (1976), Kentucky coal miners suffering from black-lung disease, low wages and poor housing go on strike, only to be threatened by armed thugs. The Thin Blue Line (1988) tracks the true crime story of a murdered police officer in Dallas. Also set in Dallas is La Bare (2014) which looks at male strippers. Wait, what? Okay, so the latter flick doesn’t have the gravitas as the other docs, but what it lacks in social issues, it makes up for in flesh! Thanks to the directorial debut of Magic Mike (2012) hunk Joe Manganiello, we can enter the titular Texas male strip club where dashing dancers oil up their gym-built bods and hit the stage in their skimpy g-strings to thrill cock-desperate chicks with their muscular moves. There’s Randy Ricks, aka Master Blaster, a former competitive bodybuilder who’s been shaking his groove-thing for more than 30 years; Ruben “Angelo” Riguero, a vivacious Venezuelan called the best performer the club has ever seen; and flashy fan favorite Jeremiah Goode. It’s goode to see his perfect pecs and bulging thong! Yet the aptly-named Randy makes us randy when he struts his stuff on stage, touting his abs, sack and shaft! No wonder he was a Playgirl magazine centerfold. Put us down for a subscription!
