Ever since Kirk Douglas played painter Vincent van Gogh in Lust for Life (1956), movie-goers have been flocking to see actors in artsy biopics. After Charlton Heston portrayed Michelangelo in The Agony and the Ecstasy (1965) and Sir Anthony Hopkins starred in Surviving Picasso (1996), film fans got to see Jeffrey Wright as Basquiat (1996), Ed Harris as Pollock (2000), Andy Garcia as Modigliani (2004), John Malkovich as Klimt (2006), Alessio Boni as Caravaggio (2007), and Michel Bouquet as Renoir (2012). Of course, we’d be remiss not to include Love Is the Devil: Study for a Portrait of Francis Bacon (1998) on this list. Derek Jacobi gives a fictional depiction of the titular British painter. The 1960s-set drama begins when George Dyer (Daniel Craig) breaks into Bacon’s house. Instead of calling the police, Francis invites the thief to bed! What follows is a torrid love affair as the old artist and the younger Dyer engage in a strained and crazed relationship. The two encounter nightclub owner and model Muriel Belcher (Tilda Swinton), photographer John Deakin (Karl Johnson) and artist David Hockney (Hamish Bowles). But mostly they keep to themselves while enjoying intimate scenes. When taking a bath, Mr. Craig gives us a clear full frontal view of his massive assets while relaxing in the water. As you ogle his muscular legs, awesome abs, and wet schlong, it won’t take long before you reach for a towel! Suffice it to say, seeing 007’s big Bond will have you shaken — and stirred up!
