Review

The world of cinema invites viewers to a variety of places. Thanks to Baz Luhrmann, we got to spend time with Hugh Jackman via a virtual vacation to Australia (2008). The same can be said for Jack Nicholson in Roman Polanski’s Chinatown (1974) and Dean Stockwell in Paris, Texas (1984) by Wim Wenders. If you fantasize about Justin Theroux, then venture to David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive (2001). Of course, Mr. Man is into the Map of the Sounds of Tokyo (2009) where he can cozy up to Sergi López. Also known as Mapa de los sonidos de Tokio and Mapa dels sons de Tòquio, Isabel Coixet’s Spanish flick follows a fish market employee named Ryu (Rinko Kikuchi), who moonlights as a contract killer. Ryu runs into complications when she falls in love with David (López), the Spanish wine merchant she’s been hired to whack by rich businessman Mr. Nagara (Takeo Nakahara). The man wants David dead since his daughter supposedly committed suicide over him. This sentiment must be contagious since Ryu has a similar reaction. As the plot unfolds, many twists and turns arise like the members on audience members. This is especially true when you fast-forward to the movie’s 59-minute mark. That’s when Sergi sports his abs, sack, ass, and semi-erect shaft while boning his lucky lover in a hotel room designed to look like a train car. Thanks to this slow-moving sex scene on a seemingly secluded subway train, you won’t need a map to locate Mr. López’s massive monorail!
