The gritty crime thriller Out of the Furnace (2013) follows the hardworking hunk Russell Baze (Christian Bale), a blue-collar dude working his life away at the local steel mill by day, and caring for his terminally ill father (Bingo O’Malley) by night. When Russell’s younger brother Rodney (Casey Affleck) returns home from his military service in Iraq, he gets tangled up in a ruthless crime ring run by the equally as ruthless John Petty (Willem Dafoe), he mysteriously disappears. When the police fail to find the whereabouts of Rodney, Russell must take matters into his own hands, and risk his life to locate and save his brother.
