Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973)

Set in New Mexico in 1881, the western flick Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973) follows Garrett (James Coburn), an aging outlaw-turned sheriff of Lincoln County. With pressure mounting from governor Lew Wallace (Jason Robards) and cattle baron Chisum (Barry Sullivan) to track down his former partner-in-crime, Billy the Kid (Kris Kristofferson) and his cattle-stealing gang, Garrett goes toe-to-toe with his ol’ buddy to restore peace. When Billy is nabbed and imprisoned, it’s only a matter of time before he escapes and heads for the hills. Instead of fleeing the country, the convict meanders about in Fort Sumner, leaving behind a trail of dead deputies.
