Requiem for a Dream (2000)

Experimental in structure and technique but true-to-life in its depiction of drug addiction’s downward spiral, Requiem for a Dream (2000) is an exercise in the poetry of self-inflicted doom. Director Darren Aronofsky has taken Hubert Selby Jr.'s harrowing novel and given it a visual life that is every bit as gritty and dark as Selby’s original visions. With a knock out cast including Jared Leto, Marlon Wayans, Jennifer Connelly, and Ellen Burstyn, playing the sad and increasingly demeaning exploits of four junkies, Requiem for a Dream is a tough and unflinching film that will have viewers reeling.  And while this kind of thing might not be for everyone, Mr Wayans’ hot bootie most certainly is!
