River Queen (2005)

Set in nineteenth-century New Zealand during the Maori/British land conflict, River Queen (2006) tells the story of Sarah (Samantha Morton), the daughter of a British army surgeon that gets knocked up by the son of a Maori leader. When Sarah gives birth, daddy gets killed in a conflict, leaving the newborn without a father. After raising the child, simply named ‘Boy’ for six years, the deceased dude’s family kidnaps the child to raise him in the Maori way of life. The distressed dame goes on a frantic search for her missing son, eventually find time to fall in love with Doyle (Kiefer Sutherland), a protective and caring soldier. When mother is reunited with her now teenage son (David Rawiri Pene), the abducted boy isn’t too keen on leaving the tribe.
