Road House (1989)

Considered one of the “100 most enjoyably bad movies ever made,” Rowdy Herrington’s action flick Road House (1989) repurposes the classic western, but with skin — lots of skin! When philosophy-spouting, martial arts expert James Dalton (Patrick Swayze) rides in and gets a job at the Double Deuce, he soon deduces that the town is under the thumb of evil Brad Wesley (Ben Gazzara). And once James steals Brad’s girl, Dr. Elizabeth “Doc” Clay (Kelly Lynch), there’s gonna be a showdown. Even though this story feels by the numbers, it features prime figures — especially when we get to see the chiseled physique on Mr. Swayze. The muscular hunk flaunts his pecs and guns while puffing on a cigarette. In other words, he’s smoking in every way! If that’s not hot enough, the hottie steams up the screen when bares his buns as he gets out of bed. No, Patrick, go back instead! The story also includes Wade Garrett (Sam Elliot), Ernie Bass (Keith David), Pat McGurn (John Doe), Jimmy Reno (Marshall Teague), Cody (Jeff Healey), Morgan (Terry Funk), and Steve (Gary Hudson). The latter stud doffs his duds to bang a blonde babe (Dawn Ciccone) from behind in the bar’s back room. That is, until Swayze steps in and fires him. When the door opens, we are treated to an illuminated view of Hudson’s back and nude booty! Suffice it to say, if you come to a fork in the road, always take the happy trail that leads to Road House!
