Summer of Sam (1999)

Spike Lee’s Summer of Sam (1999) is so hot, it may steam up your screen! Although the actions of real life serial killer Son of Sam — David Berkowitz (Michael Badalucco) — fuel the film’s plot, the story is really about the effect he had on a group of fictional Italian-Americans living in the neighborhood where the crimes took place. Set in the Bronx during 1977, the thriller unfolds as Dionna (Mira Sorvino) struggles with her cheating husband Vinny (John Leguizamo). He’s growing estranged from his buddy Ritchie (Adrien Brody) who has transformed into a punk rocker — complete with faux British accent. While the regular Joes (Al Palagonia, Brian Tarantina, Ken Garito, Michael Rispoli, Saverio Guerra) in the hood are opposed to Ritchie’s transformation, the edgy girl next door (Jennifer Esposito) digs it. For the record, Mr. Man does too. In fact, Mr. Brody looks so good, he earns money turning tricks! In other words, all of these characters are dealing with their own issues as well as living in fear of being Son of Sam’s next victim. The all-star cast also includes Anthony LaPaglia, Bebe Neuwirth, Ben Gazzara, John Savage, Michael Imperioli, and John Turturro as the voice of Harvey the Dog. If you want to give your inner dog a bone, check out the bod on horn dog Vinny. Just 6 minutes into the movie, Mr. Leguizamo’s bare butt can be seen as he bangs a gal in the garage. Later, he touts his bulging briefs. Summer of schlong!
