Review

The beachfront comedy Ted & Venus (1991) was both directed by and stars Harold from Harold and Maude (1971) himself, Bud Cort! Mr. Man would like to have his balls in that court! Our buddy Bud playsTed Whitley, a thirty-five-year-old hippie poet dude living in Venice Beach, California and sponging off of disability. What Ted lacks in employment he surely makes up for in nerdiness and earnestness. Since he doesn’t work, Ted has a lot of time to daydream and work on his beat poetry. One day while is hanging out at the beach, he sees the woman of his daydreams getting out of the water. Ends up, she's Linda (Kim Adams), the community service worker helping him to secure a place to live. Being egged on by his buddy Max (James Brolin), Ted pursues Linda, even though she’s in a relationship and has no romantic interest in him. But as Ted gets deeper into his crush, he goes from well-intentioned to creepy in a heartbeat and all sorts of hijinks ensue. While Mr. Man was hoping Ted would end up living happily ever after, there are a few other dudes who will pique your interest. Brian Thompson and Martin Mull can both be seenminus their shirts. Whether you prefer the classically ripped Brian, or the chubby, mustachioed dad bod on Martin, there's something for everyone in those dual scenes. But it's James Brolin who really steals the flick by showing his buns while getting in touch with his artistic side. He's painting in the nude, and we get to see the fine work of art that is his fanny as he does it. We don’t get to see Venus but we do get to see Brolin’s moon! Ted & Venus will have you lying in bed with your hand on your penis!
