The 1979 Academy Award winner for "Best Film," Michael Cimino's The Deer Hunter (1978) used some fake history to make some very real points about PTSD, how America treats its Veterans, drug addiction, and a whole lot more serious issue. Led by an Oscar winning performance by Christopher Walken, this nightmarish tale centers around a group of steel mill working, deer hunting buddies from Western Pennsylvania who get sent off to fight in Vietnam. Mike Vronsky (Robert De Niro), Nick Chevotarevich (Christopher Walken) and their blonde pal Steven (John Savage) all head off to stop the spread of Communism but end up POWs who are forced to compete against each other in games of Russian Roulette by their Viet Cong captors. They escape, but while Mike goes back home with a newfound hatred of violence, and Steven goes home in a wheelchair, Nick never goes home. He falls in love with doing heroin and playing Russian Roulette for vast sums of money, all of which he sends back to Steven. Suddenly, it's up to Mike to head back there and bring his buddy home. But is his friend too far gone to be saved? While it is a heavy drama, the movie does feature some rather juvenile bits of nudity by a Hollywood legend. Leading the charge in the nudity assault is Robert De Niro, who gives it his all when he gets drunk at a party and runs around naked. It is a rumptastic display as he runs away from the shindig with his hot buns in clear view. When he turns around to yell there is even a quick shot of his little Raging Bull (1980). You'll unchamber a few loads out of your love gun watching that scene in The Deer Hunter
