The Martian (2015)

Several stars can be seen in the sci-fi hit The Martian (2015) — not only in the sky, but on screen. Box office babe Matt Damon leads the well-known cast featuring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, and Sean Bean in this Oscar-nominated pic. Based on Andy Weir’s same-named novel, The Martian takes place in 2035 when botanist Dr. Mark Watney (Damon) gets stranded on the Red Planet. With only enough supplies to last 30 days, Mark must use his scientific skills to find a way to produce more water and grow enough crops to last for four years, when the next crew is scheduled to make the 50 million mile trek to Mars. Since Ridley Scott directed this pic as well as Alien (1979), Damon knows “In space, no can hear you scream.” So, it’s a good thing his character is able to use technology to contact NASA and alert the crew of his situation. As such, they decide to go rogue to go back and save him. And it’s even better that Matt shows off his naked chest in the meantime! No wonder the movie was a major moneymaker! If that’s not impressive enough, it won Golden Globes for Best Movie/Comedy and Best Actor (Damon). Shown in 2D, 3D, IMAX 3D and 4DX, the movie also gained praise and accolades for its visual effects. Of course, the most special effect was seeing Matt’s body double reveal Mark’s back, ass and shaft! Houston, we have no problem with that!
