The Motive (2017)

The Motive (2017) otherwise known as The Author is Spanish drama about a man named Alvaro (Javier Gutierrez) who is obsessed with writing the next great piece of Spanish literature. He and his wife (Maria Leon) live a humble life in Spain until her novel unexpectantly blows up, gaining her international fame, fortune...and causing her to have an affair and dump the very average Alvaro. Alvaro decides he really needs to kick his novel writing into high gear so he can show her he's a much better writer than her, but he has zero ideas. After hearing that the best novels take inspiration from real life, he figures he'll just write about his neighbors, but since they're so boring, he's going to have to prod them into doing some more interesting stuff, so his book doesn't suck. Like a reality TV show producer, Alvaro does everything he can to amp up the drama of the people around him and reaps the benefits from every fight and fling. Will it be enough for Alvaro to become a bestseller or is his writing dream one he's best put to bed? Director Manuel Martin Cuenca's motive for making this one appears to be to give viewers the chance to get a look at Javier's hog! Mr. Man could write whole novels on Alvaro's writing process, which is to strip naked and place his cock and balls on his desk to meditate before writing.
