The Normal Heart (2014)

Adapted from the autobiographical Larry Kramer play of the same name that debuted back in 1985, in 2014 Ryan Murphy crafted the HBO film The Normal Heart to widespread critical acclaim. Set during the early 1980s, the film follows writer and gay activist Ned Weeks (Mark Ruffalo) as he visits his buddy Craig (Jonathan Groff) and realizes his buddy is very, very sick. There's a new, rare form of what's believed to be cancer ravaging the gay community and after seeing how deadly it is, Ned feels the need to do whatever he can to raise awareness about the then little-known disease. Craig dies, and his doctor Emma Brookner (Julia Roberts) tells Ned's other buddy Bruce (Taylor Kitsch) that his boyfriend died of the same disease. Emma and Ned work together to spread her theory that the disease is sexually transmitted before the disease spreads throughout the entire gay community. The gay men don't trust her killjoy ways and lack of solid evidence, while Ned's New York Times reporter boyfriend Felix (Matt Bomer) insists that he can't get AIDS stories on the front page since straight people just don't care yet. It's going to take them a long time to start caring, so don't expect Ned's efforts to have a huge impact no matter how hard he tries to save lives in this one. While there is a lot of drama, there isn’t a lot of skin. Obviously tons of hot stuff would be a bit off in a movie about the killer STD that devastated the gay community for decades, but Matt Bomer briefly bares his ass during a playful moment of sexual excitement, while Mark Ruffalo adds a dash of shirtless action a bit later. Is it normal for our hard-on to be this hard? We'll see Ruffalo's ass when he's in the shower washing off Matt Bomer's sore covered body a few scenes later, but it's a rough one to jerk it to. Jonathan Groff strips all his clothes off, save for a red Speedo during a fun beach scene, while Taylor Kitsch is an equally sexy bitch tossing the football around without his shirt on. The guys of The Normal Heart will have your heart racing!
