Review

There’s a thin line between love and obsession and that line is obliterated in In the Realm of the Senses (1976) a film so controversial it was banned in its native country of Japan.  Set in 1936, this is the story about a man (Tatsuya Fuji) and one of his servants beginning a torrid affair in the shadow of a government that is increasingly trying to control its people.  Their desire becomes a sexual obsession, causing them to give up on everything else.

This is one of the most controversial movies of its time, and judging by the amount of skidalous sex you can see why.  Fuji is a slim, toned sexual dynamo who shows his body from all angles.  He is so amorously aerobic you’ll forget you have to read subtitles.   On second thought, reading is optional.
