Review

Adapted from the Günter Grass novel of the same name, the surrealistic comedy The Tin Drum (1979) centers on Oskar Matzerath (David Bennent), an intellectually superior Eastern German kid that refuses to grow old, a decision he makes as a three-year old, thanks to his uncontrollable repulsion of adult hypocrisy and irresponsibility. The on-set of World War II pushes the odd child to scream and pound incessantly on his cheap toy drum, a noisy protest against his immediate community’s passivity towards Nazi Germany. What an adorable kid! What’s even more adorable is seeing Daniel Olbrychski in the buff, baring buns and teasing a look at his penis during a steamy moment of lovemaking with his lover. While Oskar pounds his drum, Daniel Olbrychski will have you beating off!
