The 2015 Amazon docu-series The New Yorker Presents is a visual presentation of the pretentious content of the famed titular magazine, a publication popular in the English department of most universities. Presented in a magazine form, the quirky series provides a grab bag of content that will inherently make you a much smarter person. From a short film that stars Alan Cumming as God, who delivers messages, mostly of the apocalyptic and judgmental kind, to his prophet (Brett Gellman). The next segment features an insight interview between Ariel Levy and Marina Abramovic, a famous performance artist who’s not afraid to challenge the status quo. Lastly, there’s a feature on Tyron Hayes, an Harvard-educated amphibian expert that doesn’t quite fit the nerdy mold of a researcher. Just like its magazine counterpart, you can expect a lot of interesting stories and highbrow content, but the series is short on skin. A shirtless, Speedo-clad Brett Gellman provides the only skin, showing off his beefy body while condemning and judging people. In other words, while doing God’s work. This isn’t your professor’s New Yorker!
