The last name of Sir David Suchet is pronounced SOO-shay, not Suck-It. That’s a shame since we’d love to blow the British bloke! As a graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, the alluring thespian showed off his acting chops in 1980 when he portrayed physicist Edward Teller in Oppenheimer and artist Gustav Klimt in Schiele in Prison. Mr. Man went wild over Mr. Suchet’s civilized performance in the hit flick Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984). Like Kenneth Branagh, Albert Finney, Alfred Molina, and John Malkovich, Suchet played the famous fictional detective Hercule Poirot of Belgium. David’s portrayal came in the ITV series Agatha Christie: Poirot (1989-2013) for which he received a BAFTA nomination in 1991. By 2001, David donned Victorian attire for the TV movie Victoria & Albert and the miniseries The Way We Live Now. Alas, he kept his costumes on in these costume dramas. Since then, Sir Suchet could be seen in Roberto Benigni’s live action adaptation of Pinocchio (2002) and heard in the animated movie Flushed Away (2006). Through the years, David exposed his… range on stage (Amadeus, King Lear, The Merchant of Venice, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?); on film (The Falcon and the Snowman, Harry and the Hendersons, The Little Drummer Girl); and on TV (Doctor Who, Dracula, Great Expectations, NCS: Manhunt). Of course, we prefer David’s revealing role in Sunday (1997) which features his hairy chest, cock and balls! We love when actors give it their all!
