Fruitvale Station (2013)

The acclaimed writer/director Ryan Coogler and leading man Michael B. Jordan both kicked their feature film careers into high gear with Coogler's debut film Fruitvale Station (2013). Based on the final day in the life of Oscar Grant III (Jordan), the film follows the young man with an entire life ahead of him that is tragically cut short at the end of the day at the titular stop on the Oakland train line by a BART police officer (Kevin Durand) with an itchy trigger finger. Jordan is brilliant in the lead role, proving conclusively he can carry a film by himself—though he is aided by an ace supporting cast including Octavia Spencer, Melodie Diaz, and Ahna O'Reilly. Though Jordan would buff up considerably for his next two efforts with Coogler—Creed (2015) and Black Panther (2018)—he still looks mighty mighty sexy without his shirt on in this flick!
