Gold (2013)

Set in the summer of 1898, Thomas Arslan’s German-language Western Gold (2013) follows a small group of German immigrants with gold fever as they head through the uncharted wilderness of northwest Canada in search of gold. Blowhard Wilhelm Laser (Peter Kurth) leads seven wannabe miners compiled of the cautious and capable Emily (Nina Hoss); Joseph Rossman (Lars Rudolph), a father of four determined to escape poverty; Gustav Muller (Uwe Bohm), an obnoxious, alcohol-imbibed journalist; Otto and Maria Dietz (Wolfgang Packhauser and Rosa Enskat), two cooks that drive the wagon; and Carl Boehmer (Marko Mandic), an experienced horse wrangler. Together, the treasure-seeking pack will try to survive the treacherous, six-week journey that’s made more difficult by a couple of menacing men that are hot on their trail.
