Inherent Vice (2015)

Set in 1970, Inherent Vice (2014) stars Joaquin Phoenix as Doc Sportello, a private detective living in a haze of drugs on the Los Angeles beach in 1970. He quickly finds himself in over his head when his ex-girlfriend Shasta (Katherine Waterston) gets him tangled in a kidnapping plot involving Shasta's new billionaire boyfriend (Eric Roberts), the billionaire's wife (Serena Scott Thomas), and the wife's boyfriend (Andrew Simpson). To survive, Doc enlists the help of his lawyer (Benicio Del Toro), disdainful detective (Josh Brolin), and ex-junkies (Owen Wilson and Jena Malone). He’s going to need all the help he can get, because he’s got a laundry list of villains after him, including a drug-dealing business man (Martin Donovan) and a really odd dentist (Martin Short), who manages to show off his underwear bulge in a weird scene. That’s an inherently nice package!
