Biography

What’s not to love about Martin Mull? The bespectacled actor, comedian, musician, and artist boasts a bulging résumé with works on film, on television, on stage, on recordings, and on museum walls! Born in Chicago and reared in Ohio, the fair-haired fellow earned both a Bachelor and a Master of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design. Since then, Martin penned songs and opened for Frank Zappa at Austin’s Armadillo World Headquarters. Next came roles on the absurdist late night shows Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman (1976-1977), Fernwood 2 Night (1977) and America 2-Night (1978). Throughout his career, Mull perfected his dry wit by playing droll characters such as Leon Carp on Roseanne (1991-1997); Willard Kraft on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch (1997-2000); and the drug-using pharmacist on Two and a Half Men (2008-2013). The prolific pro could also be seen (Arrested Development, Dads,’Til Death) and heard (American Dad!, Danny Phantom, Teamo Supremo) on other series. Martin even scored an Emmy nomination for his 2016 guest stint on the political satire Veep. Over the years, the amusing dude appeared in many movies, most notably portraying Colonel Mustard alongside Lesley Ann Warren’s Miss Scarlet in the classic Clue (1985). Mr. Man says Mr. Mull did him in the kitchen with a candlestick! Martin also played Richard Rich Sr. in the direct-to-video holiday flick Richie Rich’s Christmas Wish (1998). Yet we prefer Marty’s shirtless turn in the R-rated pic Ted & Venus (1991) which includes views of his skivvies. We must mull over Mull!
