Mr. Man has met his match with Mr. Wonderful (1993), not to be confused with Canadian businessman Kevin O’Leary of Shark Tank fame. The title refers to the PG-13 rom-com starring the wonderful Matt Dillon. As Gus DeMarco, Matt plays an electrician who wants to buy a bowling alley with his buddies (including Bruce Kirby and Luis Guzmán). But his dream is in the gutter since his funds must go to his ex-wife Leonora (Annabella Sciorra) as long as she remains a divorcée. Yet if Gus can marry her off, he won’t have to pay alimony. As a result, he tries to hook her up with guys who might propose. Enter topless Tom (William Hurt), Mike (James Gandolfini), Harry (Peter Appel), and Mr. Wonderful (Bruce Altman). Did we mention that Gus has a girlfriend? He’s seeing Rita (Mary-Louise Parker) but she decides to leave him when she senses he still has feelings for Leonora who is now seeing Dominic (Vincent D’Onofrio). Needless to say, it’s complicated! Under the direction of Anthony Minghella, the film also features Dan Hedaya, Jessica Harper, and the skin on David Barry Gray. As Gus’s pal Pope, the latter actor flashes his abs when he gets busted for banging his lady in the bowling alley. Strike! Sadly, Mr. Dillon doesn’t go nude at all. If he did, the flick would have made more money at the box office. Even though it was a critical miss, we still give it two thumbs (and another part of the anatomy) up!
