Celebrated audiophile Murray Gershenz made news for selling his 300,000 piece record collection shortly before his death in 2013. When he wasn’t running the Music Man Murray record shop in Los Angeles for 50 years, the young-at-heart entrepreneur was carving out a career as a character actor in Hollywood. Murray made his boob tube debut in 2001 as Uncle Funny on the hit sitcom Will & Grace. Guest spots on other TV shows followed, including In Case of Emergency and Pushing Daisies in 2007; House and Mad Men in 2010; Modern Family in 2011; Raising Hope, Partners and NCIS: Los Angeles in 2012; and Trophy Wife, Ghost Ghirls, and Sullivan & Son in 2013. The small screen senior also scored recurring roles on The Sarah Silverman Program (2008-2010), Parks and Recreation (2011-2012), and Kickin’ It (2012). Meanwhile on the silver screen, the golden oldie appeared in Extreme Movie (2008), Smashed (2012), The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (2013), and I Love You, Man (2009) with Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, and Rashida Jones. But Mr. Gershenz really turned our heads with his bottomless turn in The Hangover (2009). Cue the needle-screeching-across-the-vinyl sound effect! Yes, Murray revealed more than his sense of humor in the buddy comedy. The blockbuster flick may star Bradley Cooper, but the real scene stealer is Murray’s bare booty which is exposed during a medical exam. This is our kind of homeopathic care! Although Gershenz is now gone, we’re sure God made him head DJ in heaven. Rest in peace, Music Man.
